Android 15 Release & GMS Certification Timeline Update: Major Changes to MADA/EDLA Device Certification Deadlines
Google has officially announced the release date for Android 15, set for September 3rd. With this release, the certification timelines for Android versions will be updated.
Deeplight has compiled the latest expiration dates for Android version certifications.
Here's how to understand the chart:
First Column: OS Version (API Level)
This indicates the Android version.
Second Column: AOSP Release
This refers to the release date of the Android version.
Third Column: Google GMS Certification – MADA Certification Deadline
There are two types of certification deadlines here: New DEVICE and New S/W BUILD. For example, with Android 12, New DEVICE refers to the first-time certification for a new product. If Product A applies for MADA certification for the first time and chooses the EU region, it is classified as a New DEVICE, with the certification deadline set for February 28, 2023. If Product A passes certification in the EU before the deadline but later needs to certify for another region, such as Russia, this falls under New S/W BUILD, with a new certification deadline of October 4, 2023.
Fourth Column: Google GMS Certification – EDLA Certification Deadline
It‘s evident that for the same Android version, the EDLA certification deadline is typically one year later than the MADA certification deadline.
Of particular note is the MADA certification deadline for Android 15, which is shockingly short, ending in November 3rd 2025. In comparison, Android 14 was released in October 2023, with certification extending until late February 2025. If you plan to pursue GMS certification for Android 15, be sure to act quickly to avoid missing these critical deadlines!
